Why And How To: Detoxing And Cleansing
I am loving the summer-like weather here in New Jersey because it means more time spent outside, big salads, and enjoying the beach! Now that spring is here we can break out from hibernation and step out into the sunshine. We can shed the heavy layers and lighten up our wardrobe. It is also time for spring cleaning! Not only for our homes but our bodies as well.
Spring is an optimal time to cleanse our bodies because in the spring nature organically goes through growth and a rebirth.
Cleansing our bodies is very important because our bodies will tend to accumulate and store toxins from the food we eat and from environmental factors such as pollution and chemicals from plastic. A build up of toxins can cause an array of issues such as chronic fatigue, skin breakouts, poor digestion, inflammation, arthritis, eczema, and poor circulation.
To spring clean your body, give it a break from rich and complicated foods with a cleanse. The best way to cleanse our bodies is to avoid anything packaged and processed and consume lighter foods such as fruits and vegetables, certain whole grains such as quinoa or brown rice, and seeds. Make sure to add a lot of leafy greens. Kale, swiss chard, arugula, spinach, or dandelion are excellent choices. Choose good quality fats such as olive oil or avocado. Try to buy organic if possible and drink a lot of water! Add lemon to your water for an extra detoxifying boost!
Another way to cleanse is with a detox. One way to detox is by only juicing fresh vegetables and fruits, drinking herbal tea, and a lot of water. If you need to you can consume a smoothie or liquid broth soup (preferably raw). When our food is consumed in this form, our bodies will save a lot of energy that goes into the digestion process. This promotes the nutrients to be absorbed efficiently and thus more energy is available for the rest of your body and mind. Cleansing can sharpen your concentration, heighten your intuition and help you gain clarity. Try this cleanse for one day. Listen to your body and see how you feel. If you’d like you can extend it up to three days.
I’m interested to know..
Have you tried a cleanse before? If so how did you feel after it was over?
Love,
Kim
